Seeing patterns in multiplication can help students solidify the repeated addition and skip counting strategies they might be using to multiply and helps to develop their fluency with the operation. This resource is designed as an introduction to multiplication to help your mathematician identify patterns in the multiplication table.

Included is a multiplication table and prompts for students to identify different patterns. The prompts can be used in a few different ways:

  • Have students practice identifying patterns as you teach the multiplication facts, one at a time, in the order I suggest;
  • Use the resource as a review after you have introduced all the multiplication facts; or
  • Gamify the activity by printing, cutting, and shuffling the cards.

When students are comfortable with the patterns, you can use the blank table to have students fill in the patterns themselves.

This resource also comes with an interactive Google Slides digital version!
